FasoPro is a company that transforms food products based on edible insects. Since 2014 FasoPro offers a range of products based on shea and locust caterpillars. FasoPro is an initiative of Kahitouo HIEN. Holder of a Master's degree in Biochemistry-Microbiology obtained in 2009 at the University of Ouagadougou, and a Master's degree in Water and Environmental Engineering, Environment option from the International Institute of Water and Environmental Engineering (2iE) obtained in 2012, his innovative vision for the company has earned him multiple national and international awards.

CONTRIBUTIONS BY SINERGI BURKINA

Fasopro has been supported by Sinergi Burkina since 2019 as part of the Partnering to Accelerate Entrepreneurship (PACE) program in partnership with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The objectives are as follows:

  • Financing of mass communication (production of advertising spots and their broadcast on television).
  • Reinforcement of FasoPro's production capacity through the purchase of production equipment (oven, fryer, semi-automatic welding machine, etc.) and the purchase of raw material (shea butter caterpillars)

LA VIVRIERE is a senegalese SME specializing in the processing and marketing of local cereals created in 1992. With a single raw material at the beginning, millet, the company also processes maize and cowpea and markets pre-cooked fonio. It offers a wide range of traditionally African and typically Senegalese products which are sold under the brand name WIIW, on the local market and exported to the European Union, the United States, Canada and the rest of Africa.

Thanks to the quality of its products, the company has been awarded several times the quality prize by the European Union within the framework of its programs for the promotion of local cereals in Senegal.

Bineta Kone COULIBALY is an engineer in statistics and training and has a master's degree in economics and a higher diploma in management from the C.E.S.A.G. She was head of the economic and social statistics office before joining the BHS (Banque de l'Habitat du Sénégal).

She is a founding member of the group of local cereal processors in Senegal (T.C.L), of the national committee of the millet / sorghum initiative, of AAFEX, and of the association for the sustainability of family businesses.

KOOD is a young senegalese company specialized in the production and marketing of ice cream and frozen yoghurt in different flavours (vanilla, chocolate, bouye, etc.) under the brand name MILKY in different regions of Senegal. The company was created in 2016 by Mr Diadji Ka and his wife Ngoné THIAW, and started its production in December 2017.

THE ENTREPRENEURS

Diadji KA holds a Bachelor's degree in Information Systems from the Polytechnic University of Pomona in California (CAL POLY Pomona). He worked for 10 years in the United States before deciding to come back to Senegal in 2015 and devote himself to his entrepreneurial projects to create the company KOOD where he holds the position of manager and is in charge of the coordination of activities.

Ngoné THIAW holds a master's degree in finance audit. After several experiences in Senegal in accounting firms, she decided to join her husband in the United States, then returned to Senegal with him. She held the position of production manager during the first months of KOOD's activities and is now in charge of new product development.

Founded in 2006 by the Malagasy promoter Malala Rabenoro, SOAFIARY is specialized in the sourcing, processing and commercialization of cereals (maize, rice) and leguminous plants (beans, cape peas, lentils, soybeans) on local and international markets. The company employs nearly 200 people, including 88% women.

 

Backed by a good reputation in this sector, the company begins to diversify its activities in 2017. SOAFIARY has set up a feed mill unit and has also launched the SOADIO project, a contract farming project run in collaboration with the diocese of the Vakinankaratra region, located in the highlands of Madagascar. The company trains the farmers and provides them with the agricultural equipment and inputs needed to operate the 4,100 hectares of land owned by the Diocese, and then buys the entire production. This project is a response to the challenges of traceability and product quality.

 

THE ENTREPRENEUR

The company was founded by Malala Rabenoro. With a background in marketing, Malala previously worked for an Microfinance Institution (MFI) where she gained more than 15 years of experience in administrative and personnel management. She left her position in 2011 to dedicate herself fully to SOAFIARY, where she manages the marketing, procurement and investor relations aspects of the business.
