Supporting technological innovations in climate

In today's world, the urgency of tackling climate change has become impossible to ignore. With scientific consensus growing stronger by the day, we face a critical moment in human history. The consequences of inaction are dire, with rising temperatures, extreme weather events, and disappearing ecosystems already impacting communities worldwide. The need for immediate and decisive action to tackle climate change has never been more pressing and demanding of breakthrough innovations in business and technology at an unprecedented pace.

Climate ventures are pivotal in driving climate action by demonstrating the market feasibility of low-emission technologies and models, especially in frontier markets where there's an opportunity to leapfrog emissions-intensive development pathways. However, entrepreneurs in these markets face challenges accessing early-stage capital and tailored support.

To accelerate the impact of Climate Tech companies in emerging markets, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), in cooperation with EIT Climate-KIC, has developed the CATALI.5°T initiative, which will facilitate access to financing, help them scale up and prepare them for investment.

Funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), I&P is helping to implement this ambitious initiative in West Africa. To find out more
