Sofamac is a senegalese startup specialized in the production of terracota tiles and bricks.

The company has completed the construction of its factory and started production at the beginning of the week, Monday 16th March 2015. Several orders are already under discussion.

Sofamac was born from the association of Senegalese and Spanish entrepreneurs:

  • Moussa DIA, CEO,is a civil engineer entrepreneur who ran for more than twenty years an engineering and metallic construction business (sheds, water towers…) in Saint-Louis, Northern Senegal.
  • His friend Waddah Saab, chairman of the management board, has been supporting the project for a long time. He worked more than 10 years, as en engineer, in the chemical industry.
  • Julio Aguilar (technical director) and his brother Jose-Luis Aguilar previously managed a brickworks in Catalonia, bringing their know-how and providing a part of their equipments when they joined Sofamac. The Aguilar family has been producing terracota bricks for 3 generations.

The terracota market provides a real development opportunity in Senegal. Considering the strong local demand, the objective of Sofamac is to revive terracotta production in the country, which presents interesting advantages:

  1. Environmentaly friendly: completely recyclable and and energy efficient production
  2. Great thermic resistance and good sound-insulating properties
  3. Long-life products (not flammable and durable)
