Date: 27/05/2022
Theme: Vie d'I&P

Understanding the need to combine economic considerations with biodiversity conservation, USAID, MIARAKAP and the private sector are partnering to develop integrated sustainable development activities that preserve biodiversity-rich landscapes, improve the quality of life of local communities, and stimulate economic growth and job creation.

For this reason, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), MIARAKAP, and the private sector have co-created and co-funded MITSIRY. As part of the alliance, USAID's $5 million in funding will leverage an additional $7.5 million from the private sector.

Mitsiry program aims to support Malagasy SMEs and start-ups that are strongly committed to environmental preservation and to help local communities through economic empowerment and incentives for land preservation.

This five-year program aims to co-finance and support sustainable social and environmental impact projects led by profitable and committed companies:

  • 7-8 beneficiaries
  • 4.5 million in grant funding
  • 7.5 million in private sector co-financing
  • Up to 5 years of support

and to finance and incubate start-ups to help new entrepreneurs integrate social and environmental impacts into their business models:

  • 24 grantees
  • 500,000 USD in seed money
  • Up to 2 years of incubation

For seed funding, the target sectors of activity are: renewable energy, agriculture, ecotourism, environmental education, beekeeping, aquaculture, agroforestry and waste management, spread over 4 to 24 months and allows to benefit from funding of $ 5 to 45 000 in the form of repayable advances.

The call for projects is launched in the regions Haute Matsiatra, Atsimo Andrefana and Anosy.

Startups meeting these criteria will have until July 31 to submit their applications.
