A program to support the digital energy transition in sub-Saharan Africa

Launched in 2022, I&P Digital Energy is one of I&P's latest programs. Funded with 4 million euros from the Agence Française de Développement and the European Union through the Digital Energy Facility, this initiative aims to finance and support small and medium-sized enterprises that offer energy access solutions thanks to new technologies, but are experiencing difficulties in finding the financing they need to structure and develop.

I&P Digital Energy offers these hopeful companies seed financing, with an average amount of 300,000 euros per company (200 million FCFA) and strategic support. Ultimately, the initiative should generate a leverage effect for the companies financed, enabling them to structure and formalize, and thus impact more than 150,000 people.

To implement this program, I&P is drawing on its expertise and its network of 7 partner investment funds to prospect, support and monitor companies: Comoé Capital in Côte d'Ivoire, Teranga Capital in Senegal, Sinergi in Burkina Faso and Niger, Zira Capital in Mali, Inua Capital in Uganda and Miarakap in Madagascar. Gaia Impact Fund, a specialist in impact investing in renewable energies in Africa and Asia, is also involved in the program as a sector expert.

The first companies in portfolio : Innovex and Solarly

To date, I&P Digital Energy has welcomed to its seed portfolio two companies specialized in the production, distribution and installation of off-grid solar energy solutions: Innovex in Uganda and Solarly in Cameroon.

Founded in 2015, Innovex produces equipment and technology solutions that remotely monitor the use and performance of off-grid solar energy systems. The seed funding will enable the company to increase production of its connected devices and thus expand its business in Uganda. Find out more about the company.

Solarly, founded in 2016, is a company providing off-grid solar energy solutions. It has also developed connected devices enabling it to collect the data needed to remotely monitor its installations. I&P Digital Energy is supporting the company in strengthening its distribution network in Cameroon, as well as improving its connected devices. Find out more about the company
