Sanuva was created in 2019 by three young Malians trained in France and Mali, Mahamadoun A. Traoré, Moussa Coulibaly and Bamory Coulibaly who came together around their common vision to participate in the sanitation and sustainable development of Mali.

Objet du financement

Sanuva is supported by Zira Capital and I&P through I&P Acceleration in Sahel. The main objective of this partnership is to :

  • Develop the recycling unit (work on the unit, installation of a water point, purchase of fire extinguishers) 
  • Increase the collection and production capacity through the acquisition of new production equipment and a dump truck
  • Strengthen the team with new hires and reinforce occupational health and safety (OHS) standards 
  • Organize the key functions (accounting, operational and commercial) of the company through technical assistance 

Expected impacts

  • Strengthen the accountability function and increase sales
  • Maintenance of existing jobs and creation of 6 new jobs (including 3 day laborers)
  • Reorganization of production and reduction of energy consumption in the medium term

The entrepreneur

Afrisend was created and managed by Zeinabou Sidibé, a French-Malian, who grew up in Bamako in a large entrepreneurial family. With a Master's degree in International Finance from the Ecole Supérieure de Gestion (ESG) in Paris in 2013 and a Master's degree specialized́ in audit and management control from SKEMA Business School in 2014, she worked at Deloitte et Associés as a junior and then senior auditor. In 2018, she joined PPG Industries in Paris as a business analyst and financial controller for West Africa to focus on her business in 2022.

2AD Company is a company producing and marketing sanitary pads in Bamako, Mali. The main mission of 2AD Company is to reduce the taboo around menstruation and to help teenagers and young girls to blossom during their menstrual cycle by offering them adapted and environmentally friendly sanitary pads.

The entrepreneurs

The company was created by Awa and Adam Drabo, two twin sisters who both completed internships at the National Laboratory of Mali and the Institute of Rural Economy of Mali (IER) before launching into entrepreneurship in 2019.  Awa manages the production and the purchase of raw materials, the storage and the management of the relationship with the different suppliers. Adam handles the sales and marketing side and manages the brand's communication on the various social networks.

IKALOOK, "your style" in Bambara, is a Malian company specialized in the confection of women's clothing and advocates ethical fashion.  It is the first Malian company to modernize the woven loincloth, a fabric obtained from the artisanal weaving of local cotton.

THE ENTREPRENEUR

IKALOOK was created in 2016 by Fatoumata Namissa Théra SOW, a young woman strongly committed to eco-responsible fashion. With several years of experience in design, this fashion enthusiast since her early childhood started her clothing business in 2013. She designs original models that she makes from wax, bazin and dampé fabrics, a traditional fabric popular in Mauritania, where her mother comes from.

The company was founded by Adam Soreya Sylla, a young Malian lady of 36 years old who is passionate about cosmetics. She is a lawyer by training and has succeeded in her conversion thanks to the training she received in Tunisia and Mali. Initially, she had started the production of cosmetic products in 2016 in an artisanal way.

Fulbe et Khem was created by Mamoudou Elimane HANNE, a French-Malian former top-level sportsman (European Champion and French record holder in 4x400m) with a Bachelor's degree in Economics/Management and a BTS in Negotiation and Customer Relations. Convinced by the benefits of natural plants, he decided to move to his country of origin to launch his company. 

PURPOSE OF THE FUNDING

Fulbe & Khem benefits from the I&P Acceleration in Sahel program, whose objectives are to : 

  • Reinforce the company's supply capacity in raw materials and packaging
  • Consolidation and development of the clientele
  • Contribute to the formalization and structuring of F&K
  • Strengthen the team through new hires and build employee loyalty through improved living conditions (more protection at work and implementation of a medical and social coverage policy)

Teliman is the very first on-demand motorcycle-taxi service in Bamako, Mali. Teliman is co-directed by Hawa Traoré and Abdoulaye Maiga, two young and talented professionals from the Malian diaspora. The company's vision is to revolutionize intra-urban transport in West Africa.

Teliman offers city dwellers a faster, cheaper, safer and door-to-door mode of transport. It provides drivers with attractive working conditions (access to motorcycle ownership via leasing, income above the minimum wage, social security).

Teliman has succeeded in creating and introducing a Motorcycle Taxi offer that was previously non-existent in Bamako.

 

Partnership with I&P 

The consortium of investors include Yamaha, Mercy Corps and I&P through the program I&P Acceleration Technologies. This financing will mainly allow the acquisition of new motorcycles and the investment in IT and marketing.

 The expansion plan should cover 15 countries with a fleet of more than 20,000 motorcycles.

Société Malienne de Blanchisserie is a Malian company providing a complete laundry service to hotels in Bamako.

The company takes in charge the collect, cleaning and delivery of the hotels’ linen (ben linen, aprons, sponges, table linen, bath towels…). The company counts the biggest hotels in Bamako among its clients, including Azalaï, Radisson and El Farouk.

To this date, the company is the only professional laundry service provider in Mali.

 

THE ENTREPRENEUR

Boureïma Lam is a Malian entrepreneur. He launched the laundry Société Malienne de Blanchisserie in 2007, a few years after the launch of one of the first dry-cleaners of Bamako (Pressing Lam). This previous experience made him realize the lack of professional offer for the hotel industry.

In parallel Boureïma founded a training center dedicated to the laundry sector’s activities, as there is very little skilled labor in this sector.

I&P committed alongside with Société Malienne de Blanchisserie to:

• Increase the capacity of laundry treatments (from 1,5 ton todays to 5 tons of laundry per day)

• Launch a new line of services for hospitals and health centers

Carrières et Chaux du Mali (CCM) is a Malian company specialized in the production and commercialization of quicklime and agricultural lime.

The company has access a high quality landform deposit of more than 70 million tons of raw material in its various forms. This supply will serve gold mining, agriculture, sanitation, and construction industries.

The quarry and the factory are based in Karaga (340 km west of Bamako in the region of Kayes). The company significantly participates to the economic growth of this area: more than 70% of the employees of the production site come from Karaga area.

The products will be offered in Mali and in the sub-region (Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea, Burkina Faso, Senegal, and Ghana).

THE ENTREPRENEUR

Madani Diallo, founder and director of CCM, stands as one the pioneer actors of the gold industry in West Africa. Trained as geochemist and mineralogist, Madani has more than years of experience in the mining sector. He held executive functions in major mining companies such as BHP Billiton and Anglogold Ashanti. He led mining exploration team, leading to the discovery of several gold mines.

Madani is a member of the board of directors of several institutions (Trust Bank in Ghana, International Bank of Burkina Faso)
