Founded in 2016, Recycling is a Togolese company specializing in the collection, sorting, and recycling of plastic waste.

The company transforms the plastic waste it collects into secondary raw materials, in the form of plastic chips and pellets, for use by plastics manufacturers. By offering recycled pellets, Recycling provides a more economical and environmentally friendly alternative, enabling plastics manufacturers to reduce their production costs.

To date, Recycling has collected more than 20,000 tons of plastic waste, contributing to a significant reduction in plastic pollution in Togo. The company works closely with a network of more than 3,000 collectors and employs 39 people, including 17 women, generating a significant economic and social impact for all stakeholders in the chain.

Recycling is led by Tchomela N'Yabé Bekounim, a graduate in ecology and environmental sciences from the University of Lomé and founder of the VEGA association, an organization committed to raising public awareness of environmental protection and waste management. His commitment to the environment and communities has been recognized and rewarded on several occasions. In particular, he was the winner of the FAIEJ (Fund to Support Youth Economic Initiatives) green projects competition and the KPEKPE Togo 2017 competition, and came third in the “Africa is Calling You” Challenge in the same year.

In 2021, he received support from UNDP Togo through the Togolese Facility for Acceleration and Innovation (FTAI).

I&P has partnered with Recycling to:

• Strengthen the company's production capacity;
• Improve the production process;
• Develop the production site; and
• Provide technical support to improve accounting, financial management, and internal organization.

Main Impacts 

• By producing 456 tons of recycled plastic pellets in the first year after investment, Recycling will prevent approximately 2,000 tons of CO2eq.
• Creation of 37 jobs over a period of 3 years.

KAOPLAST est dirigée par Sandrine Montigaud, 41 ans, française installée au Sénégal depuis 2017. Ancienne sportive diplômée en STAPS, elle a gravi les échelons de l’entreprise depuis 2019, jusqu’à en prendre la tête en 2021. Elle s’appuie sur une équipe expérimentée et une gouvernance impliquée, portée par les actionnaires.

KAOPLAST is accompanied by I&P and Teranga Capital through the CATAL1.5°T program. The funds raised are intended for:

• Strengthen and expand its range of recycled products (MPIR).
• Support the company in making strategic investments (CAPEX).
• Structure the administrative and financial function.

​Key Impacts 

• KAOPLAST expects a 52% increase in its workforce between 2023 (46 jobs) and 2029 (70 jobs), with the proportion of formal jobs tripling.
• The amount of recycled plastic is expected to increase by 171% between 2023 and 2027.
• By recycling 487 tons in the first year of the project, the company will avoid approximately 1,800 tons of CO2e.

Habitat et Développement en Mauritanie (Habidem) is an eco-construction company specialized in the valorization of local geosourced (clay) and biosourced (Typha) materials. The company's aim is to address the issue of access to housing in sub-Saharan Africa, using materials that make a significant contribution to the fight against climate change and, at the same time, create green jobs as a source of local development.

The entrepreneur

Created in 2013, Habidem is headed by Oumar WELE, who has some twenty years' experience in eco-construction in France and Mauritania. He holds two bachelor's degrees in Civil Engineering from the Institut Universitaire de Technologie du Havre in 2008 and in Building Energy Efficiency from the Institut Universitaire de Technologie Cherbourg/Caen, as well as a BTS in Sustainable Development Project Management from the CPSA Combourg in Brittany and a Building Quantity Surveyor Technician diploma from the Institut Supérieur de Technologie Appliquées in Taza/Morocco.

Partnership with I&P

Habidem is funded by I&P through I&P Acceleration in Sahel, funded by the European Union. The goal of this partnership is to :  

• contribute to setting up a production unit and purchasing equipment 
• industrialize the production process for compressed earth bricks and insulation panels

Al Baraka is a small company specialized in the production and sale of pastry and food delicacies in Mauritania.

The entrepreneur

Al Baraka was created in 2015 by Ibrahim Amadou Diop is a young Mauritanian entrepreneur with a degree in mathematics and computer science and an application developer and self-taught.

Partnership with I&P

Al Baraka is funded by I&P through I&P Acceleration in Sahel, funded by the European Union. The goal of this partnership is to :  

• support the development of the company's activities
• contribute to the modernization of the production tool, the reinforcement of the distribution chain, and the business capital, contribute to the acquisition and deployment of mobile carts to improve the marketing of Al baraka products, strengthen the production tool, and support the management of the company

Agro-Emballage specializes in the production and commercialization of woven polypropylene bags. Agro-Emballage aims to support the agri-food industry by making their products more competitive through the provision of packaging that is adapted and attractive in terms of design and quality. It also installs and maintains machinery.

The entrepreneur

Agro-Emballage was founded in 2018 by Célestin KANAZOE, an engineer specializing in mechanics and renewable energies from Mohamed 1er University in Oujda (Morocco) who has several years’ experience in entrepreneurship. With the support of his wife Estelle DJIGUIMDE, he began his entrepreneurial adventure by repackaging food products in attractive packagings. That’s how he began importing packaging for commercial purposes. Building on this success, he now plans to become the national leader in the production of polypropylene woven bags.

Rock is a Malian company specializing in the production of industrial slabs and pavers for indoor and outdoor paving.

The entrepreneur

Rock was founded in 2019 by Mohamed Arbi, a 30-year-old Malian entrepreneur with a solid knowledge of the building and civil engineering sector, who was quick to understand customers' expectations in terms of industrial slabs and pavers. He embodies the vision and determination of Mali's younger generation of entrepreneurs.

Rock is supported by I&P and Zira Capital through I&P Acceleration in Sahel. The aim of this partnership is to :

• Increase production capacity by fully industrializing the production process and reducing lead times
• Increase sales to B2B customers through the implementation of an adapted sales strategy

Luxcosmetiks is a company which evolves in the production and marketing of perfumes and body care under the brand Star in Guinea.

The entrepreneurs

Luxcosmetiks was created in 2019 by two entrepreneurs:

• Thierno Boubacar Diallo: Holder of a professional degree in Financial Engineering obtained at the Ecole Supérieure de Direction et de Gestion (ESDG-Rabat) in 2013, he has several years of experience in the cosmetics and perfumery sector in particular.
• Abdoul Hamidou Diallo: He holds a Master's degree in Business Administration and another in Accountability from Kennesaw State University (in Georgia).

Lika Cosmétique is a company specialized in the creation and sale of perfumes and scented care products in Côte d'Ivoire. It offers its customers a wide range of quality products including perfumes, incenses, scrubs, soaps and night creams. 

The entrepreneur

Lika Cosmétique was founded by Ms. Barro Zalika, a young woman entrepreneur with a bachelor’s degree in bioengineering and genetics from the University of Fatih in Turkey and a bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Management from HEC Abidjan. Zalika Barro has several experiences in various sectors (cosmetics, communication) and has received several awards including Entrepreneur of the Year from the BJKD Foundation. She is also part of the TOP 15 young Ivorian entrepreneurs who are changing the Ivory Coast according to the magazine “Journal d’Abidjan”.

Partnership with Comoé Capital and I&P

Lika Cosmétique is supported by I&P and Comoé Capital through I&P Acceleration in Sahel. The funding will allow the company to develop a new market segment, especially in local stores and popular markets (mass market) through the production of mini fomats of its flagship products, which are spices and barbecue sauces. This funding will be supported by technical assistance to improve the company's structuring, its quality processes and its marketing and sales actions.

Fa Confection by Naty is a young company specialized in traditional and professional clothes and articles in Senegal.

The entrepreneur

Fa Confection was founded by Aminata Ka, a Senegalese entrepreneur with a passion for fashion design. She holds a master's degree in International Business from the American Business School in Paris and has a strong experience in the banking sector in France and in Senegal.

Gona Maroquinerie is an Ivorian company specializing in leather goods, particularly in the production of office items (conference folders, diaries), handbags or travel bags, pocket items, watch straps, wallets, and other accessories made of leather and imitation leather.

The entrepreneur

The company was founded by Jean Cyrille Ahoua Gona in 2014.

Autodidact, Mr. Ahoua is now a specialist in leather goods and shoe repair and has more than 33 years of experience in this sector. Accountant training, he began his professional career, far from the craft, as a sales manager in a company of Import / Export. Attracted by the idea of learning a trade, he left the company after two years and started working in the shoe industry.

His talent and his commitment to the leather goods sector have enabled him to win several prizes and distinctions at the national and sub-regional level :

• 2nd prize in the National Competition of Young Ivorian craftsmen (1998)
• 3rd Prize of Excellence of the Best Craftsman (2014)
• 1st Prize for Innovation at the National Exhibition of Social and Solidarity Economy in Morocco (2017)
• 3rd Prize for Circular Economy at the Salon Tournant de l'Economie Sociale et Solidaire in Senegal (2019)
• 2nd Prize at the Ivorian Handicraft Market (2021)

Mr. Ahoua is recognized as an approved trainer by the Fund for the Development of Vocational Training (FDFP) in the framework of Technical and Vocational Training in Côte d'Ivoire. He is also the President of the Union of Shoemakers, Bootmakers, Leatherworkers and Tanners of Côte d'Ivoire and the Vice President of the African Confederation of Leather Industries (Coafric)

Gona Maroquinerie is supported by I&P Acceleration in Sahel program, which is implemented in Côte d'Ivoire by Comoé Capital sponsored by I&P. The support will essentially allow the company to increase its production capacity. Gona Maroquinerie will also benefit from the support of several consultants who will strengthen the brand's reputation, improve the production process and the quality of the articles, and revitalize the company's accounting and commercial functions.
